sus álbumes más populares; canciones inéditas como;
habas" (tema dedicado a Bill Clinton y Mónica Lewinsky) y "Prueba
domadora, manager y corista Chela Lora.
Alejandro
Lora (bajo y voz), Chela Lora (voz y coros), Rafael "El WEA" Salgado (armónica),
Eduardo Chico y Oscar Zárate (guitarras), Ramón Pérez
(bateria) son: El TRI de México.

This statement is being circulated for
signature to members of the arts community. Much has been made of
the role that prominent artists have played in bringing broad public attention
to Mumia's case. The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) boycott is particularly
designed to silence this voice. We encourage everyone to use this
statement as a way to mobilize effective resistance by asking prominent
artists, producers, and presenters to speak out. Please call us to
strategize.

November 7, 1999
In August 1999, the largest national organization
of police officers, the Fraternal Order of Police, has called for a nationwide
police boycott of all businesses and individuals, especially artists, who
oppose the execution of Abu-Jamal. Last week they announced plans
to hold protests and to boycott two upcoming concerts by Sting and Rage
Against the Machine because these artists have at different times expressed
opposition to the execution of Mumia Abu-Jamal. Sting and Rage are scheduled
to perform at venues outside Philadelphia on November 14 and December 6,
respectively. Since this announcement, one FOP official in Philadelphia
has backtracked, telling the media they “never called for” a protest of
the Sting concert. What will actually happen that night is uncertain, but
it is clear that the police are looking for many ways to implement this
national boycott.
STATEMENT:
"We artists condemn the police attacks on musicians for their political beliefs. The boycott of artists and businesses called by the Fraternal Order of Police is no ordinary political boycott. The police are government employees who are in a position of power over people, and their boycott is a direct form of police intimidation and censorship of the arts.
"This national political campaign by police to execute Mumia Abu-Jamal is unprecedented and very dangerous. And with this latest move, the police are basically saying that artists are not allowed to play concerts in the US if they have ever opposed the execution of this journalist and political dissident. And venues are not allowed to host such concerts. This kind of censorship will not be tolerated."

Subj: Cesar Chavez Day
Attention UFW Supporters!
California State Senator Richard
Polanco has introduced Senate Bill SB 984 that would
make March
31st a paid, state holiday
in honor of UFW co-founder Cesar Chavez.
It ìs time that Cesar, the farm workers movement, and
the labor movement got the recognition it deserves.
Having a paid holiday would also give students the opportunity to learn
about the struggles of the UFW and Cesar Chavez and the current
struggles of farm workers today.

I support Senate Bill SB 984
as introduced by the Honorable Senator Richard Polanco,
which would provide that March 31st be a judiciary holiday,
a required holiday for schools and community colleges,
and a paid holiday for state employees.

AztlanNet@Gallery: A limited Edition "Magulandia" by Gilbert Magu Lujan.--The recent unveiling of Gilbert ‘Magu’ Lujan's work at the Metro Red Line subway station at Hollywood and Vine. A vision he elaborates further in a recently completed serigraph entitled Magulandia: A Drive through Aztlán. This work focuses on theater and the movies against an expansive landscape replete with Royal Palms that evoke Califas exotica as invented by Hollywango mythmakers. The serigraph also includes a Califas custom car scenario. The clich images are intended as a provocative and humorous statement of a fantasy ‘other’ place that serves as a paradigm for ‘our’ place, here and now.
